Deck Repair in Brier, WA
Everett Deck Repair serves Brier homeowners with deck repair, new decks and full replacements, booked from our Everett base.

Brier is a quiet, single-family city of large lots, and most of its homes have a deck or two behind them. We are based in Everett and travel to Brier for deck work. We do not have an office in Brier, and we say so plainly so you know where we are coming from.
Decks on Brier's 1950s and 1960s ranch lots
Brier grew out of the Shasta Park subdivision and the mink farms that came before it. Much of the housing arrived in the 1950s and 1960s as suburban ranch houses. The city is zoned only for single-family homes, and lots are large, with a minimum of 12,500 square feet. That usually means a deck with room to spread, often a long platform along the back of a ranch house, sometimes with a set of stairs down to a sloping yard.
Homes from that era have often had a deck added or rebuilt at least once since. A deck from the 1980s or 1990s can still be sound, but the original fasteners, flashing and footings deserve a close look. A deck that is fifty years younger than the house it is attached to can still be old enough to need real attention.
Rot, loose rails and failing ledger boards: what to look for
Moisture is the main enemy of any wood deck, and the damage tends to start where you cannot see it. Walk the deck slowly and check these points.
Press a screwdriver into the top of the joists, the posts where they meet the ground, and the ends of the boards. Soft wood that gives way is rot. Look at the ledger board, the beam bolted to the house wall that carries one side of the deck. Stains, gaps, or a bolt head that has rusted through suggest water has been getting behind it. Shake the railing posts and the stair stringers. A rail that moves more than a little is a safety problem, not a cosmetic one.
Surface problems matter too. Boards that cup, split, or feel spongy underfoot, nails that have backed out, and grey or green growth that never fully dries all point to a deck that has been holding water for too long.
Deck repair, deck building and deck replacement in Brier
We work on three main kinds of job. Each has its own page with more detail.
Deck Repair covers the fixes that keep an existing deck safe and usable: replacing individual boards, repairing rotted joists and beams, correcting posts and footings, rebuilding stairs, repairing a ledger board, and staining and sealing once the structure is sound. It also covers inspections, if you want someone to look over a deck before you decide what to do.
Deck Building is for a new deck or a significant change to one: composite or PVC decking, railings, covers, a deck extension, a second-story deck, or waterproof decking that leaves a dry space underneath.
Deck Replacement is for decks past sensible repair. That can mean resurfacing a deck whose frame is still good, or removing the old deck and building a new one on a clean footprint.
Most Brier jobs start as a repair question and, once the frame is checked, end up as one of these three.
Repair or replace: how the decision usually goes
The frame decides, not the surface. If the joists, beams, posts and ledger are solid, worn boards and a tired finish can be dealt with by replacing boards or resurfacing. If rot has reached several joists, or the posts have decayed at the base, repairing piece by piece starts to cost more effort than it saves, and a replacement is the honest answer.
A deck attached to the house with a failing ledger is a special case. That connection carries load and keeps water out of the wall, so we treat it as the first thing to settle before any cosmetic work.
We will tell you which side of the line your deck is on, and we will say so if a repair is all it needs.
What a visit to your Brier home looks like
We start by walking the deck with you. We look at the surface, then get underneath where we can to check the joists, beams, footings and the underside of the ledger. We probe suspect wood, check the fasteners and flashing, and look at how water moves across and off the deck.
We then explain what we found in plain terms, show you the problem areas, and tell you what we would repair, what can wait, and whether replacement makes sense. You get a written estimate after the visit. We do not ask you to decide on the spot.
Because we come from Everett, we schedule Brier visits in advance rather than turning up on short notice. We do not offer emergency or after-hours service.
